DSi to launch in Europe spring 2009

Nintendo of Europe has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that the newly unveiled DSi console will launch in the region in Spring 2009.

The DSi features the ability to download games directly to the console, as well as additions to the hardware which include a three megapixel camera and improved audio functions.

"We are aiming to launch DSi in Europe in spring 2009," said a company spokesperson.

However, Nintendo will not be releasing any further details of a European launch until closer to the date.

"As it's too early to confirm specifics on the European / UK launch we will not be offering further comment at this time."

The console will go on sale in Japan November 1, and cost JPY 18,900 (USD 179 / EUR 129 / GBP 101) .

First Look at the New Nintendo DSi

At 1:30 Tokyo Time, Nintendo kicked its fall press conference. Since Nintendo is not attending the Tokyo Game Show, we expect the event to have some year end surprises and hopefully a bombshell or two. When we asked about invites, Nintendo Co., Ltd. told us that the event is Japanese press only, so we'll be doing a not-so-live liveblog — AKA translating the Famitsu and Gemaga liveblogs.

Not wasting any time Nintendo has announced the new DS, called the "Nintendo DSi". Iwata says the goal is to have "one DS for one family".

The specs for the new Nintendo DSi are announced: It eschews the GBA slot (boo!) in favor of a range of improvements. The handheld's screens have been enlarged, and will now be 17% bigger (at 3.25 inches) than those found on the DS Lite. As for the rumored additions, both have proven to be correct, with "audio enhancements" made to the handheld, while it will also now include a .3 megapixel camera. "So the health of the DS continues to grow," said Iwata, "we are putting out this new version."

For digital delivery purchases, there is a DSi Shop, from which users can download DSiWare from. Pricing categories for the DSiWare are: Free, 200 points, 500 points and "Premium" or 800 points. Customers will get 1000 free points to spend at the DSi Shop that are good until March 2010.

The DSi will be released in Japan on November 1. It will retail for ￥18,900 (USD$180), and will be available in two colours, white and black. It will be released in other markets sometime "next year".

Nintendo's demo kiosk, the DS Station, has entered its second phase, which is called "nintendo zone". The service will begin at McDonalds in Japan. Nintendo promises a rush of upcoming software for the DSi.

They are now talking about how Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles will link the DS and the Wii. A trailer for DS title Dragon Quest IX is being shown. The game, as we broke yesterday, will be out next March. The DS portion of the press conference has concluded, and we've moved onto the Nintendo Wii portion.

Iwata is addressing an issue that has bothered many a Wii owner: memory storage. "We have to address the console's insufficient memory storage," said Iwata. Doing so, Nintendo is going to make it possible to download games onto SD cards starting Spring 2009 via the Shopping Channel.

Nintendo is going to ship a 3 minute movie called "Wii de Dekiru Koto" (What You Can Do With The Wii). It shows users how to easily connect to the internet. Nintendo is also putting special Wi-Fi adaptors on the market as well. Plus, the company is launching a new campaign by giving those who cannot connect to the internet 500 points.

For the Wii version of Animal Crossing, it's possible to swape data over the DS version and use Miis in-game. The debuted-at-E3 Wii Speak gets a November 20th sale date in Japan for ¥7,800 (US$74).

Now showing Wii Sports Resort. Nintendo is re-releasing GameCube titles like Pikmin under a new series called "Wii de Asobu Selection" (Play on Wii Selection). Next up, upcoming Wii titles: Punch Out, Another Code and Sin and Punishment 2. And for the first time, the Musou (Dynasty Warriors) series from Koei is coming to the Wii. That's right, Sangoku Musou 3 will be appearing on the Nintendo Wii. Namco Bandai's Tales series is also coming to the Nintendo Wii. A new trailer for Monster Hunter 3 (tri) is shown, too.

Iwata leaves the stage. Shigeru Miyamoto comes on stage and does a Wii Music presentation. "I wanted the Wii to be a game console that makes your living room bigger," said Miyamoto. A Wii Music jam session follows.

Miyamoto is now talking about Wii Music. "If only I had this video game when I was a kid." Continuing, he adds, "If kids play with this, what will they become?" Over on the PSPChina Bulletin Boards (external link), there is a claim that Sony is planning on launching a hardware upgrade for the PSP, and this claim appears to have brought along some pictures as well.

From what's been said, this "PSP-3000," as it's being called, is supposed to come with a built-in microphone (beside the volume controls in the above picture), an updated set of buttons, and some changes to the physical features of the PSP. Furthermore, the picture above shows that the Home Button of the PSP looks to have been replaced with a PlayStation Button, possibly so that it doesn't confuse owners with the Home service.

CVG reports that it's already attempted to speak with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, and they're currently giving the usual "No Comment" routine for these sorts of things.

While it seems likely that an upgrade will happen in the future, leave it to Sony to keep us hanging until the very last moment. In the meantime, feel free to view the pictures that are available here and speculate in our comments section.

And here is the beta Ver. of it! Firmware can not be hacked @ the at the moment... It is Running a new Ver. of 3.80 out of the box... But over time people will hack it and put there own CFW on it..

Freeware application Anti Keylogger Shield blocks keyloggers from tracking the passwords and other personal information you type on your computer. Unlike other similar tools, Anti Keylogger Shield does not detect existing keylogger software; it just disables the mechanisms they use to record your typing. While I can't vouch for this app across the board, I did install one keylogger and it worked as advertised—I typed, but the log remained empty. This would be a real winner if it were portable and could run from thumb drives.

New .hack Series Takes The World R:X by Storm!

The .hack//G.U. Trilogy NewWorldGuide, which was released alongside Trilogy this week, revealed artwork for a new series, possibly new games, connected to the new .hack//LINK era. This new series may even answer the questions raised by a certain "twist" in Trilogy. In addition, Bandai Namco Vice President Shin Unozawa stated in an interview in the magazine that in the wake of the success of Trilogy he is considering making a movie based on the first 4 .hack games.

Level 70 in 1 day and 2 hours

Yesterday evening, several members of Blizzard team were watching two players, and when we asked them the reason, they told us these players were breaking the speed-leveling record and they managed to do 1-60 in 14 hours.

It turned out that these two players are not totally unknown, they are named Mineva (Stormscale-EU) and Athene (you might have heard of his *videos*), and they have broken the world record in powerleveling a character to level 70: 1 day, 2 hours and 31 minutes.

A few details on the record:
- The character was created on Monday.
- They did it in one row, therefore without rested exp.
- This record happened on the European Stormscale realm.

MMOG Subscriptions: WoW has 62.3% market share

This is not really suprising for most of us. According to MMOGChart.com, World of Warcraft has 62.3% market share of MMOG Subscriptions, the closest competitor which is Runescape is really far behind with 6.9%, followed by Lineage 6.6% and Lineage II 6.3%.

It's safe to assume that World of Warcraft won't lose his dominating position this year, however upcoming games as Warhammer Online, Age of Conan and Aion might turn the tide in the world of subscription-based MMO. What do you think?

Cut out the walls of the box, leaving the borders and bottom of the box intact. Affix an unbent piece of bristol board to the box. Cover the remaining holes with fabric. The Digital Photography School blog explains how to create this cheap light tent in detail with photo illustrations so that you don't miss any steps on the way. Calibrate your monitors for consistent tone and color with web site Screen Check. The site displays two bars, one white-to-black for adjusting tone and the other covers the red/green/blue spectrum for adjusting color. Just follow the Screen Check instructions and by the end you should have a reasonably well calibrated monitor. My Dell comes with a very similar built-in calibration tool, but if your monitor doesn't, Screen Check is worth a look. And I like to say thanks for giving me a idea to post on the site... The Tech-Recipes blog posts a relatively simple, two-software-program method for grabbing the video from your DVDs and converting them to a PS3-playable MP4 format. Depending on the size of your PS3 hard drive, this method might only work for a handful of DVDs, but you could tinker with the video quality settings to make your console a jukebox of films, no Blu-ray burning required. The tutorial uses the same DVD Decrypter program Adam highlighted in his guide to copying DVDs to your iPod, as well as a lesser-known tool dubbed PS3 Video 9.
